Rebecka trained in Manual Lymphatic Drainage in the UK and Austria. In Walchsee, Austria, she was fortunate enough to be taught by Professor Hildegard Wittlinger, who was trained by Emil Vodder himself. The School trains therapists to hold true to the original MLD technique and sequences as set out by Dr Vodder in the 1930’s.
Rebecka became the third UK MLD therapist qualified to use MLD on horses, by training at The Veterinary University at Hannover, Germany and accredited by The European Seminar on Equine MLD (Berlin, Munich & Hannover), known as the ESEL.
As part of her ongoing desire to augment her MLD skills and expertise, she spent time with the Physiotherapy Department at the Charite Hospital in Berlin, studying the use of the Hivamat and Deep Oscillation machines that are used for a wide variety of applications.
Rebecka also completed her KT1 and 2 training in Kinesiotaping, which allows her to maintain treatment benefits to patients between MLD treatment sessions. She completed KT3 in specialised lymphoedema taping techniques.
She has attended many ancillary training days and workshops in various lymphatic bandaging systems and keeps up to date with the latest developments in compression garments. She also attends workshops in wound care and tissue viability, as the treatment of wounds in lymphoedema necessitates the use of innovative products, such as hydrogels, silver and alginate dressings.
She was fortunate to be able to attend a workshop run by Willem Fourie in myofascial release techniques for post-mastectomy patients suffering from impingement or limited range of movement. Working in-house at the Chipping Norton Physiotherapy clinic allows her to use her skills treating post orthopedic recovery.
Rebecka is a Member of the British Lymphology Society (The BLS), and also a Member and Committee Member of MLD UK, a governing body of MLD practitioners. MLD UK provides lists of therapists trained to the appropriate standards, and offers training via approved establishments. She is also a Member of The Lymphoedema Support Network (The LSN), which provides invaluable information for patients suffering with lymphoedema.
She is fully insured for both Human and Equine work through Balens Insurance Limited.
Rebecka writes for many magazines and publications in order to raise awareness of MLD and EMLD. She has been in demand as a speaker to a variety of interested organisations both in the UK and abroad and enjoys treating a varied case load from her home in Oxfordshire.
